■ The Creative Assets of Gimhae

With 2000 years of history and tradition, Gimhae became one of the members of the 'UNESCO City of Crafts and Folk Art' in 2021.
It is a cultural and artistic city that brings together excellent craft assets, including Gaya ceramic and the Buncheong, a traditional form of Korean stoneware from the Joseon Dynasty, as well as metal, wood lacquer, paper, and textile crafts. 
Gimhae is also home to intangible cultural assets such as Gimhae Ogwangdae and the nation's first Gimhae Municipal Gayageum Orchestra, combining a rich cultural heritage of traditional arts and crafts.

■ Gimhae’s Creative Asset, Gayageum

The Gayageum is a traditional Korean string instrument made of paulownia wood with twelve silk strings, played by plucking and flicking with the fingers to produce sound. 
Gimhae features the Gimhae Municipal Gayageum Orchestra, the one and only Gayageum orchestra in the nation, thus promoting the value of our precious creative asset, Gayageum by performing a variety of musical genres.


■ Gayageum Music Distribution Project

In collaboration with UNESCO Creative Cities and sister and friendship cities worldwide, we have reinterpreted the traditional aspects of Gayageum in a modern way, creating a total of six beautiful Gayageum pieces. Through this, we hope to widely promote the excellence of Gimhae's creative asset, Gayageum, to the world, hoping to increase opportunities for vibrant international exchange and collaboration.
