Definition

Communicable diseases that are contracted through sexual activity with an infected person. Caused by infection with bacteria, viruses, parasites, and fungi.

HIV / AIDS

Definition

Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is the virus that causes acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). “Individuals infected with HIV” refer to individuals living with HIV and they include HIV carriers, HIV positive patients and AIDS patients.

AIDS stands for acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. “AIDS patients” refer to patients who suffer from complications like opportunistic infections and tumors after being infected with HIV and their immune system has weakened.

Transmission of HIV

  • Sexual contact with a HIV-infected person (including contact between gay men)
  • Transfusion of HIV-infected blood
  • Contact with contaminated needles and syringes
  • Perinatal transmission from infected mothers
*Medical expenses excluding non-reimbursable portions, are provided to those who have been diagnosed with HIV infection and reported to the public health center.
